چکیده

ardiovascular (CV) imaging is evolving rapidly, placing new demands on our profession for training, education, and advocacy. It is likely that the need for CV imaging will continue to increase over the coming years because of the changes in CV disease epidemiology, the aging population, the rapid changes in technology, and the need for enhanced value over volume. Over the past year, we have discussed many contemporary issues in CV imaging, including the move toward multimodality imaging. In this regard, it is worthwhile to review the approach CV imaging professional societies have taken in the United States and simultaneously learn from our European colleagues, who are undertaking a new initiative to combine noninvasive imaging under 1 multimodality professional group.

Core components of clinical education: a qualitative study with attending physicians and their residents

Introduction: In medical education, particularly in residencycourses, most of the training occurs in real clinical environments.Workplace-based learning profoundly affects students’ knowledge, attitudes, and practice; therefore, it should be properly planned.Due to the extensiveness of the clinical environment and itsimportance in training residents, investigating how residentslearn in these env...

The decline of our physical examination skills: is echocardiography to blame?

It was a logical expectation that scientific progress and the availability of sophisticated imaging modalities over the last decades would have strengthened the effectiveness of the traditional physical examination, which had not changed in almost 150 years. But, on the contrary, we witness a progressive decline in examination skills. Many colleagues bemoan this loss and blame our increasing re...

Targeted prostate biopsies: the complexity behind a simple concept.

The price for the reduction in prostate cancer mortality brought about by prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening [1] is the increase in overdiagnosis of indolent cancers, with the associated risk of exposure to overtreatment. PSA has taken the brunt of the criticism, but equally to blame is our current nontargeted, random, transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) biopsy. Random sampling at biopsy affec...

A Deep Model for Super-resolution Enhancement from a Single Image

This study presents a method to reconstruct a high-resolution image using a deep convolution neural network. We propose a deep model, entitled Deep Block Super Resolution (DBSR), by fusing the output features of a deep convolutional network and a shallow convolutional network. In this way, our model benefits from high frequency and low frequency features extracted from deep and shallow networks...
